Disc Herniation

Disc herniation results when the inner core of a disc in the spine extrudes back into the spinal canal. The weak spot in the herniated disc is located directly beneath the root of the spinal nerve, resulting in the radiance of pain all the down the leg and foot of the affected victim. Around 90% of disc herniations occur between the L4 and L5 lumbar segments, causing pain the L5 or S1 nerve.

In some cases, the herniated disc will resolve itself within six weeks. Conservative treatment options, such as physical therapy or oral steroids, can assist in the healing process and relieve patient pain. If discomfort persists after six weeks, surgery is most likely required to treat the injury.

Herniated discs are a common injury resulting from a traumatic accident such as a car crash. They can also occur due to work duties that may or may not meet safety or diligent care standards, such as repetitive heavy lifting or inactivity. In any case, if a patient suffers from a herniated disc as the result of another party's action or inaction, they may be eligible for compensation through legal means.

If you or a loved one has suffered a herniated disc that seems to have been someone else's fault, call VanDerGinst Law at 1-866-843-7367 or click here for a FREE online case evaluation.
